Customer:

Worldwide Perlite Services (WPS)

Project:

To supply a quality cryogenic grade of perlite ore

Brief:

Client required an alternate perlite ore supplier in New Zealand as they had had ongoing issues with quality

Blue Pacific Minerals had been developing a presence within the perlite mining sector of NZ in 2005/6 and was exploring opportunities for increasing exports.
WPS approached BPM as to its likely capabilities in overcoming quality issues they were experiencing for some time from their incumbent NZ supplier who was not responding to the concerns WPS raised. The problem being the ore was being used at remote project sites. For WPS the key issue was the variance in the particle size distribution that impacted on the operation of the mobile perlite expanders and the quality of the expanded perlite. The expanded perlite being used as an insulation for cryogenic equipment on major petrochemical sites around the world.

In response to the approach of WPS we at BPM undertook an assessment of processing options to ensure offering a grade that best suited WPS.

Result:

The outcome was that BPM became the sole supplier of WPS and the grade of unexpanded perlite ore being used on major project sites around the world where WPS has successfully bid projects. One of the most recent projects which is the attached picture was at the Pluto LNG project for Woodside Petroleum in Western Australia, Australia. The ore supplied by BPM was processed and used as insulation in the cold box
Currently ore is being processed for the ASIA Pacific Liquified Natural Gas Project
