Science At Work On School Visit To BPM

Twenty students from Forest View High School visited the Blue Pacific Mineral's zeolite processing factory last week.  The trip was organised in conjunction with Smart Waikato's Secondary School Employer Partnership Programme.  The idea being to connect students with key industries in the Tokoroa region giving them ideas about future career opportunities that are available to them locally. It also helps them make connections between what they learn in the classroom in subjects such as Science and how that translates into jobs outside the classroom.

Teacher Rebecca Wema reported back to us that the students really enjoyed the trip, especially seeing how the robots worked so quickly to wrap and load the products onto pallets ready for distribution. This got students thinking and created discussion in class about how jobs in the workforce are changing rapidly and the role of Science in facilitating that change.
